Die verlorene Tasche im Supermarkt.
Es ist Samstagvormittag. Anna geht einkaufen.
Sie braucht Brot, Käse, Tomaten und… Kaffee!
Der Supermarkt ist voll. Viele Menschen. Viele Taschen. Viel Stress.
Anna steht an der Kasse. Sie bezahlt. Sie nimmt den Einkauf.
Aber… wo ist ihre Tasche?
Anna schaut sich um. Links – nichts. Rechts – nichts.
„Entschuldigung, haben Sie meine Tasche gesehen?“ fragt sie den Kassierer.
„Welche Farbe?“
„Blau, mit einem kleinen Bären.“
Der Kassierer schüttelt den Kopf.
Anna geht zurück in den Supermarkt.
Sie sucht bei den Tomaten. Nichts.
Sie sucht bei der Milch. Nichts.
Sie ist genervt.
Dann hört sie: „Mama! Die Tasche mit dem Bären!“
Ein kleines Kind hält die Tasche in der Hand.
Die Mutter des Kindes schaut Anna an.
„Oh nein! Mein Sohn dachte, das ist seine!“
Anna lacht. „Kein Problem. Ich bin froh, dass sie wieder da ist!“
English:
The lost bag in the supermarket.
It’s Saturday morning. Anna is going shopping.
She needs bread, cheese, tomatoes and… coffee!
The supermarket is crowded. Lots of people. Lots of bags. Lots of stress.
Anna stands at the checkout. She pays. She takes her groceries.
But… where is her bag?
Anna looks around. Left – nothing. Right – nothing.
“Excuse me, have you seen my bag?” she asks the cashier.
“What color?”
“Blue, with a little bear.”
The cashier shakes his head.
Anna goes back into the supermarket.
She looks near the tomatoes. Nothing.
She looks near the milk. Nothing.
She is annoyed.
Then she hears: “Mom! The bag with the bear!”
A small child is holding the bag.
The child’s mother looks at Anna.
“Oh no! My son thought it was his!”
Anna laughs. “No problem. I’m glad it’s back!”

🧠Grammar: Modal verbs in the past tense
In this story, we explore modal verbs in the past tense (Präteritum).
Modalverben are verbs like:
- müssen → had to
- können → could
- wollen → wanted
These change in the past.
Here are a few examples:
- Anna musste die Tasche suchen. (Anna had to look for the bag.)
- Ich konnte sie nicht finden. (I couldn’t find it.)
- Er wollte helfen. (He wanted to help.)
⚡Tip:
The structure is usually:
[Subjekt] + [Modalverb im Präteritum] + [Infinitiv am Ende]
Example:
Sie musste (Modalverb im Präteritum) den Supermarkt durchsuchen (Infinitiv am Satzende).
