Deutsch:

Ich habe meine Bahn verpasst!

Ich gehe ins Bett, ein bisschen müde, aber auch zufrieden. Ich denke: “Vielleicht war es heute ein Glückstag.”

English:

I missed the train!

I’m almost there! But then … beep, beep, beep! The doors close. The train leaves. I shout, “Wait!” But it’s too late. I missed my train! I sigh and look at the display board. The next train comes in ten minutes. I’m already late. My boss won’t be happy.

I sit down on a bench. Next to me sits an old woman. She looks at me and says, “Late for work?” I nod. “Yes, I missed my train.” She laughs. “That happens to me often too. Sometimes it’s not so bad. Maybe it brings good luck!”

I smile. Maybe she’s right.

I look at my phone. Three new messages. One from my boss: “Where are you?” I reply: “I missed my train. I’ll be there soon.” Then I see a message from my mother: “Don’t forget to call tonight!” And one from my boyfriend: “Good luck today!” I smile a little. Maybe she’s right. Not everything is bad today.

The next train arrives. I get on. It’s crowded. No seat available. I hold onto the pole. Next to me stands a young woman. I ask her, “Good news?” She nods. “Yes, my sister had a baby!” “Oh, how wonderful! Congratulations!” I say. She thanks me. We continue talking.

Her name is Lara. She’s new in the city and works nearby as well. We laugh and chat. The ride passes quickly. Soon, we arrive at my station. I say goodbye to Lara. She says, “Maybe we’ll see each other again?” I smile. “Yes, maybe!”

I arrive 15 minutes late to the office. My boss looks at the clock but says nothing. I sit down at my desk and start working. Later, I have a coffee with my colleagues. I tell them my story. Everyone laughs.
After work, I go home. I’m still a little stressed. I think, “Tomorrow, I’ll get up earlier!” But then, a message comes on my phone. It’s Lara. “Do you want to have coffee tomorrow afternoon?” I smile. “Yes, I’d love to!” Maybe it was really good that I missed my train.

In the evening, I still call my mother. She asks, “How was your day?” I tell her the whole story. She laughs and says, “See?” “Sometimes life brings surprises.”

I go to bed, a little tired, but also content. I think, “Maybe today was a lucky day.”
